Direct Injection and the introduction of High Pressure fuel pumps

Direct injection technology, used in modern AMG engines, delivers fuel directly into the combustion chamber at high pressure. This method differs significantly from traditional port fuel injection, where fuel is injected into the intake tract or cylinder port. The direct injection approach provides several advantages, including improved fuel efficiency, increased power output, and reduced emissions.

However, it also places higher demands on the fuel delivery system since fuel now needs to be injected at over 3000psi instead of the traditional 40psi for port systems. This adds additional components, particularly the HPFP, which needs to operate efficiently at high pressures to ensure proper fuel delivery for optimal combustion. Stock HPFPs, while very capable under standard conditions, struggles to meet the fuel delivery demands of a tuned engine.

This inadequacy can lead to a lean condition, where there is insufficient fuel for the amount of air in the combustion chamber, potentially causing extremely high cylinder pressures, engine knock and resulting damage. Upgraded HPFPs are designed to provide increased fuel flow and pressure, essential for maintaining the optimal air-fuel ratio in high-performance scenarios.

While the stock pumps are only capable of delivering fuel at 20Mpa or 3000Psi, we feature pumps that can go as high as 35Mpa or 5000psi increasing flow through the injectors and increasing atomization, resulting in better power, efficiency and less emissions.
